New Orleans Festivals to Check Out: October 2022

 In Food

New Orleans is known for its to-die-for food, soulful music, colorful history, and welcoming vibe. It’s also home to tons of festivals throughout the year, celebrating everything from jazz to fried chicken, beer, and popular holidays.

October is no exception, offering many annual fests for locals and tourists to enjoy from sun-up to sundown. So what New Orleans October events can you look forward to in 2022?

In October, you can experience the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Fest, National Fried Chicken Fest, and Oktoberfest. There’s also the NOLA Reggae Fest and the biggie, VooDoo Fest, but that one is taking a break in 2022. Although not quite a festival, the New Orleans Zombie Run has also become a popular October event, coinciding with the annual Krewe of Boo parade.

If you’re heading to NOLA this October, pencil these fests into your calendar so you can make the most of your trip.

National Fried Chicken Fest

Get your fried chicken fix October 1st and 2nd at the annual National Fried Chicken Fest. This year, the fest will be along the beautiful New Orleans Lakefront, near Franklin Avenue. You can opt for a single-day ticket for $15 or get a two-day pass for $20. VIP options are also available. And don’t worry if you’re not into chicken. You can find tons more to eat at this year’s event, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

Crescent City Blues and BBQ Fest

How does a festival full of amazing food and incredible music, all with free admission, sound? Since 2006, the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Fest has celebrated the sounds of rhythm and blues. You’ll hear some of the top performers from southern Mississippi and Louisiana, taste mouthwatering cuisine, and check out some fantastic art. The fest will take place October 14th through the 16th in Lafayette Square Park.

Oktoberfest New Orleans

You’ll have many opportunities to participate in New Orleans Oktoberfest since it takes place over three weekends. Deutsches Haus presents traditional German music, food, beer, as well as some non-traditional varieties, Fridays and Saturdays, October 7th through 22nd. The festivities take place across from City Park on Bayou St. John.

NOLA Reggae Fest

The 2022 Reggae Fest returns to Congo Square in Louis Armstrong Park on October 14th, 15th, and 16th. Get your tickets to experience amazing local art, foods, and see national artists throughout the three-day festival.

New Orleans Zombie Run

Prepare to make your escape and survive a zombie apocalypse. It might not be a festival exactly, but it’s just as much of an event, especially if you’re ready to celebrate Halloween New Orleans style. The Zombie Run coincides with the annual Krewe of Boo parade at 9 AM on October 22nd, taking place before the parade rolls. Between the zombie hunt, parade, and accompanying festivities, you can certainly make a day of it.
